General Summary
This newly created entry-level position is for a tech-savvy self-starter with a passion for sharing news, events, information, and the benefits of Chamber membership to Frederick County and surrounding areas. He/She will possess a high level of creativity and innovation, as well as excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills. He/She is responsible for supporting our highly active and progressive Chamber of Commerce by compiling, creating, and reporting information and materials, as directed by the Communications Director.
The Frederick County Chamber of Commerce connects businesses and the community through leadership, advocacy, and education. The Chamber firmly believes that successful businesses make for a healthy and vibrant community and positively affect the quality of life for Frederick residents.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Be an integrated marketing team member by assisting with marketing and advertising campaigns
- Event photography and videography
- Develop and update promotional materials (flyers, forms, packets, others as requested)
- Maintain online calendar of events
- Coordinate and manage Chamber Page advertising sales
- Provide administrative support for marketing, events, and meetings
- Assure accuracy of all marketing and advertising campaigns, including extensive proofreading
- Manage and report data for email and social media campaigns
- Communicate status on all projects and results to Communications Director on a regular basis
Strategic Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or related area of study
- Must have 1-2 years professional (i.e. internship) experience
- Demonstrates initiative to set goals as an individual and as a team player
- Ability to organize and prioritize, with excellent time management skills in order to meet deadlines
- Demonstrates clear written, verbal, and visual (design) communication skills and flexibility to adapt to multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent proofreading and editing skills
- Creativity and innovation while maintaining and executing organizational branding
- Interest and willingness to learn and adapt to new technology and tools (including social media such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, etc.)
Technical Skills
- Windows XP & Windows 7 operating systems
- Google Apps
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
- Excellent digital photography and photo editing skills
- Basic video capture, editing, and production
- Basic email newsletter and list management (MailChimp)
- Basic online surveys and forms (SurveyMonkey, Wufoo, Google Docs)
- Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and/or custom CMS
Additional Responsibilities
- Administrative support as needed (i.e., file, copy, print, collate, stuff, mail, assemble)
- Assist with event planning and production as needed
- Answer member/non-member inquiries
- Attend programs as Chamber Representative as needed (includes evenings and occasional weekends)
- Customer service (meets and exceeds expectations of members, co-workers, and community)
- Informal meetings (i.e. planning, needs assessment, idea generation for programs & services support)
- Attend staff and marketing meetings (weekly) and Marketing Council Meetings (monthly)
- Support Chamber programs/services as assigned
- Other duties as required
Physical Demand and Work Effort
- Typing, sitting, standing, walking
- Constant mental and/or visual attention; work requires focused attention while working at a computer
