Curriculum
Leadership Frederick County is an educational community leadership program of the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce, now entering its 24th year. This 9-month program focuses on developing a diverse pool of future leaders for Frederick County, while providing opportunities for team-building, mentorship, personal development, and community involvement.
Apply now for the 2012-2013 class: Discover Frederick County. Discover your potential. Download the application (PDF) or pick up a copy at the Chamber office (8420-B Gas House Pike, Frederick). Applicant interviews begin in June, and will continue until the class is filled. Space is VERY limited. We encourage you to apply as early as possible!
The 2012-2013 program year will begin in September with an overnight, two-day retreat, followed by a monthly series of full-day field trips addressing a variety of issues, opportunities, and challenges facing Frederick County. These monthly sessions cover topics such as:
- Frederick County History
- Agriculture
- Government
- Education
- Health and Human Services
- Arts and Culture
- Public Safety
- Frederick’s Future (including local government, economic development, and planning)
Occasionally, two sessions are scheduled in one calendar month. The year concludes with a closing retreat, followed by a graduation celebration on May 29, 2013.
The curriculum features open discussions with leaders, field trips in large and small groups, and class interaction. Presenters include community and business leaders, specialists in professional fields, professional trainers/facilitators, and others as needed.
Leadership Frederick County requires a commitment of time and energy. Participants are expected to attend each class session from beginning to end. Each class member will also participate in the Leaders on Loan program in order to learn first-hand about community needs and issues. Occasional pre-session homework assignments include attendance at public meetings or events, or reading assignments.
