FREDERICK COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Inspirion Biosciences, a Frederick based life science risk strategy company led by J. Craig Reed, became a member of the local bioscience business community in 2007.
Since its launch, Inspirion Biosciences, has been providing critical risk management solutions throughout the entire spectrum of a laboratory’s lifecycle to companies in the Frederick County and well beyond. From lab design through operation and even decommissioning when a lab decides to move on, Inspirion is a company involved in identifying and resolving a wide array of regulatory compliance, reputational, safety, and security risks before they arise. This helps these organizations avoid damaging headlines, maintain profitability as well as product and data quality, and provides protection to the health of those who work within these facilities and the communities that surrounded them. Inspirion Biosciences is a member of the burgeoning science and technology community in Frederick whose journey and vision we can easily look to as foreshadowing what’s to come in our region.

When Amanda Haddaway started HR Answerbox, her boutique human resources consultancy firm, four years ago she was already a seasoned HR professional with over 16 years of experience working in corporate human resources.
With nearly 40,000 hours of HR experience under her belt, the two highest professional certifications in human resources, SPHR and SHRM-SCP, and a Master of Jurisprudence degree in Labor and Employment Law, she was ready and able to launch a company designed to help business owners, executives, and managers tackle the complex, and not so complex, human resources challenges they face on a daily basis.
Located in Frederick County, HR Answerbox is exactly what its name implies--the place you can go to get all of your HR questions, concerns, and conundrums figured out. Haddaway specializes in resolving difficult employee relations situations, designing and facilitating interactive training solutions, and advising small businesses on how to effectively manage their human capital.
If you’ve had the pleasure of spending any time in one of Haddaway’s sessions, you know that she is a fount of information that bubbles up from her passion. As stressful and confusing as human resources and employment law is to most of us, Haddaway is someone who seems to truly enjoy what she does and her knowledge and expertise in the field are apparent.
HR Answerbox clients say they love working with Haddaway because she listens--she responds to your specific employee problems to create a tailored approach to help your business deal with the issue you are facing--she is highly responsive and eagerly devotes quality time to each project, and she is solutions and results oriented--leaving her clients with exactly what they need to manage their human resources issues efficiently and effectively.
We sat down with Haddaway in her home office and got a few burning HR questions answered for you.
With one of the largest chamber memberships in the state of Maryland made up of a diverse mixture of business entities, we are always eager to find creative ways to meet the individual needs of our members more effectively. From nonprofit organizations to large corporations and government agencies, our members represent all business sectors in the county. One thing many of our members have in common, however, is their designation as small businesses with under 50 employees--90% of our current members are classified as such. It is with them in mind that we are excited to announce our new partnership with the Maryland Chamber of Commerce.
To give our small business members the added benefit of being members of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, we’ve joined the Maryland Chamber Federation. This partnership among the MD Chamber and 14 county and regional chambers, including The Frederick County Chamber of Commerce, allows that any business with 10 or fewer full time employees, who is a member of a participating local chamber, will receive FREE Federation membership into the Maryland Chamber of Commerce.
Some inwardly cringe when they hear the word, instantly running through the list of excuses they can utilize to get out of participating on that day--a bad case of influenza, long lost aunt on her deathbed, a last minute meeting scheduled suddenly from a needy client--anything considered better than being locked in a room with the people they work with.
But, it doesn’t have to be that way!
Team members who dread team building are likely victims of team building gone wrong. They’ve experienced the one-off, silly, trust fall based events that are haphazardly scheduled by a leader who doesn’t know much about building a team.
When done right, team building is successful when it is born from an office culture that understands and supports the idea that a bonded team is generally a more productive and effective team. It is a culture that often involves open doors, daily opportunities and encouragement to collaborate, respectful communication, a shared passion for creating a positive work environment around a product you all believe in, one where diversity of ideas is both respected and encouraged.
It is under these circumstances that an organized team building event is less likely to be met with eye rolls and twisted lips. Teams that understand the expectation of collaboration and positive interaction are more likely to embrace your planned picnics and trips to escape rooms. And, just like with anything, if you want to achieve the desired results, those tasked with participating need to be all in.
At the end of the day, well done, interactive, inclusive team building events are able to help with the bonding process of a team. And, studies have proven that a bonded team tends to be a more productive team, a more motivated team, and one that is able to collaborate and communicate more effectively.
Sounds like a winning formula to us.
Think your team could use a little building?
Here are a few local businesses that specialize in just that.
Led by the husband and wife team, Lisa Ortiz and Chris Hinchman, Spring Ridge Chiropractic offers chiropractic care in their Spring Ridge location in Frederick.
With over 35 years of chiropractic experience between them, the pair is passionate about helping their patients live a healthy lifestyle through consistent chiropractic care.
Ortiz and Hinchman see chiropractic care as one part of a wellness journey with the goal being overall health and well being through maintenance and consistent care, but they note that many patients are still motivated by pain to seek out their services, “We wish people knew that you shouldn't wait until you're in pain or have permanent damage to start seeing a chiropractor. It does not take much time or money to receive preventative chiropractic care to extend your comfort and mobility much later on in life.”
Caring for your spine should start early in life and continue throughout, similar to general medical care. Those who are diligent about their chiropractic care experience several benefits including, but not limited to, headache and stress relief, chronic pain relief, lower anxiety, greater mobility, and more.
