PUBLIC

POLICY

An important part of Chamber membership is awareness and advocacy on matters of public policy that directly impact the business and nonprofit community. The Public Policy Committee is the group responsible for monitoring government actions and debate at the local, county, state and federal levels. The Public Policy Committee also reviews legislative action and when necessary, recommends action to the Chamber Board of Directors. Only the Board of Directors can decide whether the Chamber will take a formal position on issues of public policy.

The Committee meets monthly, typically on the third Friday of every month. The Committee also manages the Business Outlook series, developing the agenda, questions and format of those events. The Public Policy Committee also develops questions for candidates for political office during campaign years, and provides verbatim responses from candidates for review by Chamber members. The Public Policy and Chamber of Commerce DO NOT endorse candidates for office.

The Chamber produces a newsletter called Chamber Insider that runs every few weeks to discuss public policy topics as well as information pertinent to business in Frederick County.
